Walking alone at midnight.

Walking through the darkened glow,
wind picked up,
and howling soared.
Leaves behind the feet of lore
rustled in
the weakened bore.
Birds flew by in shrouded sky,
honking to their packs so wry.
Then behind the eyes tell tales
of someone still
not moving,
hail.
Here he comes,
and here you go.
Rushing through
the numbers known.
Dial tone rings
and none behold
what becomes of
what's unknown.
Reaching safety, all's at rest,
'til the light turns green to red.
Waiting moments in the warm,
hurried breathing,
nothing more.
Blinded from behind and dragged
to the end of somewhere sad.
You awake and find you've been
in your safety,
never dimmed.
Dreams are scariest at best
when you live them
half-way spent.
