Lost Cause

I lay here in the quiet sun,
burning
in the brink of darkness
as the beating of the thunder
echoes in my heart
and then implodes.
The closeness of this
desperation
folding down upon itself.
Mere proof that life means
everything,
nothing,
and all of the above.
And every moment
calling forth the rain,
my mind will wander
into that forbidden land
of broken, restless, un-assured
forgotten, lost, and misunderstood.
The death of life and love
soon surfacing and buried down,
repeating and remeasuring
it's own lost cause.
And then it's done.

The broken limbs,
decaying body,
twisted up in strange new forms.
It found its way above the water,
under that burning sun,
where my heart once beat
with the echoing thunder
of lost cause.
